Since WhatsApp announced its updated privacy policy on January 6th, SIGNAL app noticed a surge in downloads! There have been 2.6 million or 2 crore 64 lakh downloads of SIGNAL app between January 7th and January 17th in India – A big number indeed!

Another app that has gained huge traction amidst this chaos is TELEGRAM. Both Signal and Telegram app have been topping the charts on both Google Play Store & Apple App Store.

The Indian government has also asked WhatsApp to withdraw its latest privacy policy update and “respect the informational privacy and data security of Indian users”. The government has sent a letter to WhatsApp head Will Cathcart stating concerns around WhatsApp’s new terms of services.

From our POV, it is a much safer app to use as compared to the instant messaging giant WhatsApp. Also, the Facebook owned platform has a bad track record of handling users sensitive information.
