Amidst the ongoing WhatsApp updated privacy policy fiasco, WhatsApp has announced new security features for its web and desktop versions that make it easier for users to login securely. WhatsApp desktop and web, now support both face and fingerprint recognition while unlocking linked devices.

As per their latest tweet, they are prepared to be over-cautious this time as it clearly mentions that WhatsApp does not see your face or fingerprint data 😉
Using WhatsApp on Android or iPhone?
Android users can then click Link A Device and follow the on-screen instructions to activate biometric authentication if their phone supports those features.
iPhone users can tap Link a Device and then tap okay, and users on iOS 14 or higher can use Touch ID or Face ID to unlock.
Both users can select the “Keep me signed in” option on the QR screen of the computer or Portal to stay logged in on the device and use their phone to scan the QR code on their computer.

How safe are my biometrics?
As per the messaging giant, your biometrics and other data for logging on desktop or web is stored locally, on the device and it does not have access to any fingerprint or face data.
Mr. Mark Zuckerberg, we really wish to believe this piece of information as circulated by you, but the question is that how many of us will be able to trust these added features, considering the previous reputation of FB over data managing and the latest update which talks about sharing WhatsApp data to Facebook.
Well this is not a good time to explore. We guess it’s time to gain clarity over the ongoing issues first!
