Months after it was launched, Meta Verified, which lets Instagram and Facebook users verify their identity, is coming to India. But unlike Twitter, Meta is honouring legacy verified badges.
Businesses are not eligible for Meta Verified at the moment as social network explores “what a valuable subscription offering for businesses could look like in the future.”
As shown in this sequence below, Meta Verified, its own attempt at a Twitter Blue-like monthly subscription offering, requires users to provide photo ID to prove their identity, then set up a recurring monthly payment of $US11.99 per month on the web, or $US14.99 in-app (accounting for respective App Store charges) to get a blue checkmark in each app.

- Dedicated account support from Meta’s team
- Exclusive stickers for Facebook and Instagram Stories and Facebook Reels

Requirements to be getting your account verified –
— Accounts must meet minimum activity requirements like — prior posting history, and applicants must be at least 18 years old.
— Applicants are required to submit a government ID that matches the profile name and photo of the Facebook or Instagram account they’re applying for.
— The verified subscriptions will include proactive monitoring for account impersonation.
How much does it cost to get the shiny blue tick?
It is available for direct purchase on Instagram or Facebook app in India starting today. Users can purchase a monthly subscription for Rs 699 on iOS and Android. The company has confirmed rolling out web verification in the coming months and it will be available for a cheaper price of Rs 599 per month.
Launching Meta Verified in India could be a big step in boosting the income from this element, while Meta notes that it’ll also launch Meta Verified in Brazil soon.
