A few weeks ago, Twitter revealed that it’s bidding farewell to it’s live video service – Periscope.

What is PERISCOPE?

Periscope (owned by Twitter) is a platform that allows you to video-record and broadcast to anywhere in the entire world. If you have ever been on Skype, it is a similar experience but, instead of video conferencing with one person, you can stream to the masses.

Why is it shutting down?

The reason for putting an end to the service was the stalled growth. In India, many were even unaware of the service, and with the introduction of live feature on most social media platforms, an app dedicated to live video streaming wasn’t actually required.

Even on the New Year’s Eve, the app users dropped as compared to last year and WhatsApp emerged as the winner, with setting a new world record on New Year’s eve.
