Since 2018, Google had planned to employ standard Hangouts for Workspace users, but the migration to Google Chats will be obligatory on March 22.
It’s the final stage of a five-step process to transition everyone from Classic Hangouts to Google Chats. On March 22, Google “may turn on the “Chat preferred” setting for all clients who haven’t done so before, making Google Chats the default chat app,” according to a report published by Google.
According to 9To5Google, those who like to use Hangouts at work will find it impossible to avoid this shift, according to Google. The transfer will only take a little time. Because it isn’t confined to a few exceptional instances, this dialogue will be available in Google Chats. The change has no impact on Google admins or end-users, but the end-user has no option but to perform what the switch requires.
Admins, on the other hand, will see the move happen automatically, although they may override it by upgrading to “Chat preferred” by March 22. The domain hangouts.google.com will continue to function, but it will now load Chat instead of Hangouts following the changeover. You may export Hangouts and Chat data if your company decides to change its communications strategy.
Google Chats will replace Google Hangouts on March 22, 2022.
