Google is now testing ads on Google Chrome.

Google Chrome

Google has started slowly, but gradually increasing the ads in some of its most popular services and applications. The most recent one of them being Google Chrome, the world’s most popular browser.

Google is testing advertisements on the New Tab Page on Chrome. The feature is currently being tested on the latest version of Google Chrome Canary on Windows. For the ones who don’t know, Chrome Canary is an experimental build that is designed for developers. Below is one snapshot we managed to get for you.

Remarkably, this feature isn’t enabled by default and needs to be activated manually. Once activated, this feature will show a hub right below the shortcuts on the New Tab Page. The shopping advertisements will also be displayed, on the basis of the user’s browsing activity on Google services.

This doesn’t mean that ads are coming to Google anytime soon. As mentioned earlier, Google Chrome Canary is an experimental build that is used by Google to test out new features that may or may not make it to the stable build that is meant for end consumers.

But now that we’re seeing Google playing around with ads, you better not be surprised when Google actually makes use of the blank canvas on the New Tab Page to make a few bucks.

At the moment, Google Chrome doesn’t show any direct ads and offers a very clean user experience, which is one reason why it is the most popular browser in the world right now. Google Chrome held a 67% market share worldwide in September 2020. It’s not hard to understand why Google would introduce ads to Chrome, is it?
