Google has recently decided to shut down the support for its Trusted Contacts app. The app allowed you to share your location with a trusted contact in times of emergency. The trusted contact could be a family member, parents, kids, relatives, friend, etc. As mentioned on the Google page, Trusted Contacts won’t be supported after December 1, 2020. If the app is installed on your device, you can continue using it until then. However, the support will end post-December this year.
Why Google is ending the support?
Google states that you can share your location with others during emergencies by setting up ‘Location Sharing’ on Google Maps. Apart from location sharing, you can enjoy plethora of other safety features on Google Maps. Google had announced the Trusted Contacts feature back in 2016 where it was first launched only for Android users as a means to share location with others. The app is now not available any more on the Apple app store and Google Play Store, i.e, both to iOS and Android users.
Basically, Google is improving the overall experience of the user, by eliminating it;’s own individual products.
Needless to say, integrating various channels into one app is the success key Google is focussing on.
