A month ago, there was a bleak sign of testing Instagram stories video length, with an an objective to increase the video length in stories. Now, Instagram has officially made it launched a live test of 60-second videos in Stories, which will mean that longer video clips will no longer be split into 15-second segments, and played across various Stories frames.

Instagram provided the following statement –
“The ability to create longer Stories posts comes highly requested by our community. We’re excited to be testing 60-second Stories so that people can create and view Stories with fewer interruptions.”

Instagram further says that this feature is being tested among a limited number of users, and once successful, it would be available for users globally.
Instagram Head Adam Mosseri said in a statement –
“We’re looking about how we can – not just with IGTV, but across all of Instagram – simplify and consolidate ideas, because last year we placed a lot of new bets. This is once again following TikTok’s footsteps, wherein you can upload longer stories.
One drawback or advantage (we are still figuring this out!) off this upgraded feature would be that now users will be able to add full reels in their stories, which will somehow merge the 2 different types of content pieces.
Will this mean that Reels are going to be somewhat diluted in the near future? We don’t think so, nor does Instagram, which is hell bent towards making reels a huge success and be years ahead of it’s immediate rival app, TikTok.
