The race to the shiny blue tick is never ending because of the status attached to it. But, will businesses have the same fancy feeling with a paid blue tick?
Sounds bizzare, but, guess, Meta is following Twitter’s footsteps.
Yes, the Twitter Blue approach to making people pay for verification, which hasn’t proven overly popular on Twitter itself, is now also seemingly in consideration at Meta as well.
According to a new finding by reverse engineering pro Alessandro Paluzzi, there’s a new mention in the codebase of both Facebook and Instagram of a ‘paid blue badge’.

Meta has neither confirmed nor denied the project, but it does seem, at least on the surface, that it’s considering offering checkmarks as another paid option – which still seems strange, considering the original purpose of verification, which is to signify noteworthy people or profiles in the app.
If number are to be considered, Twitter is already making $7 million every quarter with Twitter Blue subscriptions. Seems like Meta is super impressed with that figure.
However, if we clearly look at Meta’s history in adopting competitors strategy, it never worked good for the platform. Take for example,, TikTok pushed short form videos and Instagram copied the same, but, went way too far! So far, that they had to revert back to push static content on Instagram.
Moreover, this case is something different. Blue badge is considered to a be a status badge – one that you earn, not pay for it!
In our opinion, paid blue tick is a big NO NO!
