After over a month of testing, Twitter has finally rolled out Alt Text badges and exposed image descriptions, globally.
As seen in the image above, the badge itself will be visible on the bottom-left corner. It will be a black rectangle with the letters A-L-T in white over it. To check the Alt text, all users need to do is hover over an image to know more about it.
What is ALT Text?
‘Alt text’ is a contraction of ‘alternative text’. It’s a short written description of an image, which makes sense of that image when it can’t be viewed for some reason. Well-written alt text is important to your website’s accessibility, and its search engine optimisation (SEO).
ALT badges let users know if a particular image has alternate text, which is an accessibility feature for users who use screen readers and speech-to-text. With ALT badges, it will be easier for users to quickly decipher which images have alt text.
The ALT badges will have to input by the users manually for all images upload on the platform.
