The social media giant has raised concerns over the new IT rules, and says that new IT Rules are a threat to freedom of speech in India.
In response to the IT rules, Twitter said it will advocate for changes to elements of these regulations and continue constructive dialogue with the Indian government over the guidelines. “Right now, we are concerned by recent events regarding our employees in India and the potential threat to freedom of expression for the people we serve,” the company added in the statement, which arrives a day after the rules went into effect.

The ministry further said that Twitter cannot dictate the laws and regulations in a country and that only the government has the authority to do so. The IT ministry’s response in fact threw the ball back in Twitter’s court by stating that the social media company is acting against the interests of Indians by not complying with the laws of the land, contrary to what it has claimed.
