The start of 2021 hasn’t been ceremonious for Donald Trump.
Last week, following the attacks at US Capitol, he was banned from Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat & Twitch.
Yesterday, YouTube removed his latest video and blocked his channel for 7 days!
Why Donald Trump is banned from YouTube?
Under YouTube’s moderation policy, channels that violate its community guidelines for the first time are typically given a warning. A second violation will result in a first strike, which bars the channel from uploading new videos for a week. If they get a second strike within 90 days they’ll be banned for two weeks, while a third strike within 90 days will result in the channel’s permanent removal from YouTube.
As of now, it’s a temporary ban for Donald Trump.
There are some still videos available that were posted as recently as seven hours ago, but the channel now has been served a strike and will be blocked from uploading new content for a “minimum” of one week. Comments on the videos are also disabled, and like other platforms, Google-owned YouTube went on to cite “ongoing concerns about violence” as a reason.
The move came as civil rights groups threatened a national boycott if YouTube does not remove the channel, which has 2.77 million subscribers.
“A minimum of seven days is an important and necessary first step by YouTube, and we hope they will make it permanent,” Jim Steyer, CEO and founder of Common Sense Media, said in a statement to USA TODAY.
